What are we doing for you?

Every May and December we review our timetables to see how we can improve our services, and to add more where we can.  

We are also developing a new services which will provide more direct, faster services between the major towns and cities of the north of England.

If you are looking to book tickets for any of our current services you can buy them from Northern’s website.

More choice

When we make timetable upgrades we always look to improve journey times and connections between services, to make it easier for you to get to where you need to be, when you need to be there.

Since 2016, we have introduced more than 2,000 extra services every week across our network.

The work The Great North Rail Project has done, in areas such as Liverpool and Manchester, means we have been able to plan changes to benefit not just those cities, but also across the network, such as…

  • Direct access from Leeds to Southport and Lincoln as well as half-hourly services to Kirkstall Forge
  • Additional weekday evening services on the Durham Coast and between Morpeth, Newcastle and the Metrocentre
  • Six trains per hour between Manchester and Wigan
  • New hourly Chester to Leeds service linking the two cities with direct trains for the first time in many years.
  • Gainsborough Central got its first weekday rail service for almost 30 years
  • Improved links between Cumbria and Manchester Airport

Still to come…

New and upgraded services connecting the major cities of the North will bring benefits across the region. Our trains will run services between Newcastle, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Sheffield.

The services will be faster and more direct, making it quicker and easier for you to get where you need to be.
